Thrifty Thursday 3.

I got both of these Ann Taylor jackets from the Salvation Army, for $3 each! They're both perfectly fitting and are still in nearly perfect condition. I still need to get them dry-cleaned before I begin to wear them, just to be safe incase anything got on them from the transition from the previous owner to myself at the thrift store. The pink one will be the perfect length jacket for when I wear a long cardigan or dress this fall and next spring! It rests at about mid-thigh. The navy one can be worn as a blazer as well as a jacket when the sleeves are just cuffed slightly.

Sew what? 1st floral pocket t's.

My parents bought me a sewing machine for Christmas a few years ago, and I taught myself to sew right away. I went to a family-owned fabric store in my town that I knew the owner of and learned which needles should be used for what, and which thread to use for my machine. However, I never properly learned all of the rules and techniques of sewing and in fear of my work not being perfectly sewn, I haven't really taking the effort to really put stuff together, but instead just sketched the ideas onto paper. Nick found an idea for a simple tee shirt online and I decided why not give it a shot? It took me a few minutes to figure it all out but it was a great success and with more practice, I think I could actually sell the items I make (possibly on www.etsy.com). Here is the t-shirt that I made for Nick:) It's not perfect but he loved it anyways! And I now have so many different sewing and arts & crafts ideas in my head that I just want to put into full affect immediately.

Recently purchased:

Long-sleeve shirts: American Eagle - $11 each
Wool Socks (black and grey): H&M - $7 each pair
Olive green thigh-high's: H&M - $3 (clearance)
White "over-the-knee" socks: Forever 21 - $3

I bought these shirts for the fact that I can throw them on to lounge around in, or layer them up for the fall/winter. The colors are wonderful and they're a perfect fit. I also purchased thick socks for throwing on with boots for the fall/winter as well, especially since I will be commuting into Boston come January in rain & snow.

We're all mad here.

Black blazer: Mossimo by Target - $14
Lace dress: Vintage thrifted - $6
Black heels: $20
Alice in Wonderland ring: www.etsy.com - $20

Sorry for the not-so-great pictures. My little sister Rylie was my partner in picture-taking today, and being eight years old, she had no idea how to use my camera.. I set up a tripod after a few failed attempts and the pictures still weren't the best. Haha, anyways, I got this dress at a thrift store last year around Christmas time. I had planned on giving it to someone but I decided that I loved it too much to give it up! So glad I didn't, and yet so selfish. Oh well. I've worn this blazer before in a previous post but since it's so versatile and comfy I decided it would look perfect with this dress and heels. The "We're all mad here ring" was purchased from Etsy, and I wish I could remember who exactly I purchased it from because I would leave the link on here, but it's been almost 3 years. I don't wear this ring too often for fear of it breaking or falling off and going missing. I just love it, and apparently so did my mother because she asked for it as a birthday preset soon after I received mine. Unfortunately it's not sterling silver, but I painted over the metal with clear nail polish to prevent too much tarnish and wear.

We found each other in the dark.

Leopard-print ballet flats: Rocketdog - $5 (clearance)
Black leggings: Forever 21 - gifted from Nick
White t-shirt: Target - $7
Black leather vest: Miley Cyrus (Walmart) - gifted from sister's friend

I got this leather vest a little over a year ago. My mom threw a surprise 40th for my Dad and it was 80's themed. My sister's friend wore it to the party but decided she would never wear it again after that. So it became mine! This was actually my first time wearing it and I can't believe I waited so long. I tried to keep the look a little rocker-chic with the leopard flats that I got from a no-name tacky shoe store and I only paid $5 for them. They're a little snug but they're adorable so it's worth it. Spent the day yesterday cleaning and running errands before having a few photoshoots with Nick, this being one of them. We're also in the process of doing some stuff for his school projects. We didn't expect the sun to set so quickly or we would have spent more time outside taking outfit shots. We also had a shoot the other day which I mentioned. The pictures are a little risque to put online so I'm not sure if I'll be showing them or not.. Maybe later on this week, maybe not. I must be getting ready for work soon but I get to look forward to going out to dinner with my mother and two sisters afterwards. Maybe even take my dog for a walk after that since it's beautiful outside! Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather:)

Drive.

Hello everyone! It's been rainy and muggy the past few days.. So I apologize for the lack of outfit posts. Yesterday afternoon, I saw the movie Drive featuring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan and it was awesome! I would definitely recommend going to see it. Just know that it is rather gory, which is unexpected through the trailer shown on tv. This was my outfit from the day. Since I didn't have the chance to show it to you being worn on me, here it is all folded up before it was put on:)

Beige ballet flats: Charlotte Russe - $15
Black leggings: Forever 21 - $6
White v-neck t-shirt: Target - $12
Purple floral sheer blouse: Target - $18

After lunch and the movie, Nicholas and I did a little shopping, where I found a few light t-shirts from American Eagle that will be great for just throwing on to lounge around in or layer up in! And I also bought a few pairs of thick socks to wear with boots this fall and winter. Later in the evening, we had a photo shoot for better photos of my tattoo. They came out beautiful and I'm sure I'll share them with you soon enough!

Thrifty Thursday 2.

I bought these Sperry Top-Siders from the Salvation Army about a moth ago. I've been very hesitant to the idea of wearing Sperry's because I personally like them better on men than on women. I also didn't have any interest in spending $70 on a pair of shoes I knew I wouldn't get much wear out of. However, I found these in the boys section. They are a boys size 5 and fit me perfectly. They're already broken in and have a worn-out look to them. The metal has a little bit of green on them from being old, and there's a slight rip in the sewing on the right foot but it seems to add a bit of character. And the best part is, I only paid $2 for them!

New boots!

I had a day off from work today! So after running some errands and relaxing, my mom and sisters did a little shopping. I found both of these boots at Charlotte Russe a few weeks back but they didn't have my size in either of them. But today was my lucky day and they had both! I decided that I will need a few pairs of leather boots since I usually wear ballet flats year round and end up freezing my toes off.. Each pair cost $40, but since it was buy one, get one for $10, it was as if I only spent $25 on each pair. SO excited to wear them in the cool weather that is to come shortly!

Does anyone have any recommendations for stores to buy cheap, thick, trendy socks? :)

Itchin' on a photograph.

Black scarf: Converse - $7
Floral dress: Forever 21 - $22
Grey cardigan: Heritage 1981 - $16
Black ballet flats: Charlotte Russe - $15

Since my tattoo is in the process of healing, I need to be sure to wear loose fitting clothes and stay away from jeans or pants that might rub the wrong way. The weather is finally cooling down which means cardigans and scarves! Also, this seems to be the go-to dress for this kind of weather. It's floral and really thick with short sleeves. I got it about 3 years ago at Forever 21 and still wear it quite frequently. It goes great with black tights as well but I couldn't take the chance of the tights rubbing on my tattoo too early. And when in the sunlight, there was a little break from the cool air. After a little adventure in his grandparent's back yard, Nick went to take picture of my friend's beautiful daughter Saylor Paige in the late afternoon. I tagged along because I love Kelli and her family and wanted to see the little peanut! Thrifty Thursday 1.

Hey everyone! So I decided to start weekly posts, every Thursday about particular items in my wardrobe that I have found at thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets, etc:) I feel as if some of the most wonderful things I own, I have found in the most random of places and they become more sentimental with a little story behind them.

For my first post, I would like to show you a sterling silver spoon bracelet that never leaves my wrist, so I'm sure it's been noticed in my outfit posts at one point. This July, Nick and I were on our way to a wedding about 25 minutes away. The weather was hot but beautifully sunny. Perfect day for yard sales. So when we saw one at a small church, he decided to stop. Nick found the bracelet in a pile of old jewelry for $2. It was black and tarnished but still resembled a spoon. With a little scrubbing and baking soda, I removed all of the grime and was left with a beautiful vintage bracelet! On the inside, there's an engraving of "Oneida Community" which I went home and researched to find that it was an old company that created silverware and eventually jewelry and some are actually worth a decent amount of money due to the fact that Oneida Community stopped making most of their products before the 1950's. I feel as if the sentimental worth is much more than I would ever consider selling it for.

Long time, no posts..

Seriously. I have been slacking so badly.. I've been working SO SO much the past few weeks that I haven't really had the opportunity to take some outfit pictures. On Friday, I went to the city to view one more school and drop off some papers for financial aid at another school. I took some very unprofessional, photobooth pictures before I left so I suppose that's better than nothing, right?

Turquoise dress: H&M - $9
Leopard print scarf: Forever 21 - $7
Gray long cardigan: H&M - $24

I love that summer is ending the the cooler weather is on its way, so that now I can bring out all my cardigans and scarfs! I get out of work at 2:30 today and I plan on cleaning my car and bedroom, and doing lots of laundry while running a few errands in between. Tomorrow is Wednesday and that means I START MY TATTOO! :) So excited, and I'm sure I will update you with some picture soon enough! Hope you're all enjoying the beautiful weather.

The Carousel.

Over-sized plaid shirt: Forever 21 - $20
Leggings: Target - $7
Keds: Salvation Army - $1.50
Scarf: H&M - $6

Still raining.. So yet another comfortable and simple outfit. I worked until 3:30 today and then ran a few errands, did a little laundry, and ventured out for a quick photo shoot. They never come out as good as when my side-kick joins me, and are never quite as fun, but what can yah do! After work tomorrow, I'm going into Boston to visit a school and also hand in some papers to another school regarding financial aid. Maybe I'll take a scroll down Newbury (which could be lethal to my wallet..)

You paint me a blue sky, and go back and turn it to rain.

It's been a long week. And to top it off, it has not stopped raining! So I have stuck to simple outfits for the time being. This was yesterday's outfit. I got these jeans from the Heritage 1981 section of Forever 21. They're extremely stretchy and comfortable and I love the deep dark color. I also wore black ballet flats from Charlotte Russe (this was before the rain became torrential!) The sweater is actually a mustard shade of yellow and extremely comfortable and great for fall/autumn. It was in the clearance section of Forever 21 for $6. And I added a black cotton scarf that is made by Converse, which was also clearance for $7. Hope everyone is having a nice week and isn't suffering from rainy day blues like I am!

Rainy day mix.

Sorry for the lack of posts. But I've been really busy and I'm just completely exhausted. So much work this week! So instead of getting all dressed up and having a photo shoot, I've just been relaxing and listening to music. Hope you enjoy the music I have chosen to share with you. Let me know if you have any recommendations for me! I'd love to listen to something new. (Sorry for the Bon Iver overload. I'm slightly obsessed.)

New hair.

Got my hair highlighted and trimmed this morning after work! It was in serious need of some TLC. I also got a black and striped feather extension put in! I've wanted one for a while, but my aunt (who is also my hair dresser) wanted to find one that went well with my hair length since my hair is rather long and thick. Also, yesterday I got my ribs measured for the tattoo I'll be getting on September 14th! I'm an extremely happy lady today. Now time to get ready to enjoy another beautiful day outside!

Little house.

I finally had the opportunity to take pictures of my bedroom. Since we lost power for a few days, it gave me a good amount of time to clean and organize my room (besides vacuum since I couldn't turn one on). Just over a year ago, I paint from room that was at the time, bright lime green from when I was 12-13.. I chose white walls because I love the brightness it brings and since I have very high ceilings, it was much easier to paint the walls white without making the ceiling look all blotchy with paint. On one wall, however, I took the time to stencil out a Victorian wallpaper design. It took about 3 days just to finish the one wall but it was definitely worth it. I also have my bed placed on a loft which made it hard to get the real feel of my bedroom. My closet is located under my loft but we'll save the tour of that for another day! My room is rather plain, but that was the way in which I wanted it.
